Techsoft unveil an array of new products.

Andrew Gregory, TechSoft's general manager, takes time out to tell us what teachers can expect from one of the UK's leading educational specialists in CAD/CAM.

"Visitors to the D+T show will have seen TechSoft's largest stand yet, at the heart of the exhibition", he says. "But for those who missed the huge array of products that were on show, the following is a round up of the things to look out for this year.

"These are challenging times for Design and Technology, and therefore it is vitally important that we all show what a valuable subject it is. TechSoft has been at the forefront of CAD/CAM in schools over the last fifteen years and it is our desire to help teachers to deliver this important and rewarding aspect of the D+T curriculum. We hope that you will be as excited by our new arrivals and the possibilities they offer, as we are.

"The CAMM 1 has become a staple resource in most D&T departments in the country. With Roland's high design and build quality and TechSoft's CAD/CAM expertise, the CAMM 1 has widened the range of graphic outcomes pupils can produce. From simple vinyl graphics to high quality decals the CAMM 1, driven by 2D design, has help to raise the standard of CAD/CAM graphics. TechSoft's most popular CAMM 1, has been the CX-24/E, which now has OPAS (Optical Print Alignment System) technology as standard. The new model is the CX-24/EO.

"The CX-24/EO will revolutionise the print and cut process in your classroom, as it automatically aligns printed media in the machine. This makes printing and cutting tasks easy and accurate, opening a new world of possibilities for pupils and teachers. One might expect to pay more for this technological enhancement, but TechSoft are bringing this new CAMM 1 to you at an even lower price than the previous model.

"TechSoft has built up a close relationship with Royland which has resulted in many benefits for schools, such as the E series of Roland machines. The latest collaboration has led to the creation of two new machines which have been designed specifically for UK education. These brand new machines were launched at the show, where they drew a huge amount of interest.

"The RotoCAMM TS-30E is the spiritual successor to the immenseley popular CAMM 2. The TS-30E builds on the strengths of the CAMM 2 and adds many new features, to enable it to meet the milling/routing/3D modelling/engraving needs of most schools.

The TS-30E has a generous machining capacity (305 x 305 x 75mm) and a great cutting performance, making it exceptionally versatile. To extend the use of this machine even further an optional PICZA type scanning head is available.

"The RotoCAMM TS-400E is a larger "go faster" machine for the more demanding educational user. The TS-400E is driven by AC servo motors wiht Roland's advanced control system (DAC-FFP), giving you a maximum speed of 100mm/sec. THe TS-400E fits neatly between the TS-30E and the larger MDX-500E, and is the machine many of our customers have been waiting for."

'Develop your CAD/CAM through materials'

"For many schools the big challenge is getting the most out of a machine in a wide range of material areas. TechSoft are aware of this and are now offering schools a greater range of CAD/CAM materials this year.

"A new selection of vinyl materials is about to broaden the possible outcomes from a STIKA/CAMM 1.

"We have added new colours to the standard vinyl range as well as a new printable vinyl material for professional quality decals/labels.

"Our iron-on range has several new materials including flock and iron-on printable vinyl.

"Visitors to the stand were treated to a live demo, with printed vinyl decals being cut on a CX-24EO and then heat applied to fabric in one of their new heat presses.

"The milling/3D modelling material range ahs also expanded to include some new materials.

"TechSoft are now the educational distributor of the world renowned FOREX® classic, (the original lightweight rigid plastic foam sheet). A material which will have a very positive impact on your milling and 3D modelling tasks.

"For Food Technology, or anyone else feeling adventurous, TechSoft can now offer food grade nylon blocks for the machining of food moulds.

"Any schools who have a laser cutter can now choose from a range of laser engraving laminates, including metallic and magnetic materials which we now stock."

A "LaserCAM" can

"TechSoft's LaserCAM range found many admirers among the visitors to the show, mirroring the responses we have had when demonstrating the lasers around the country.

"The machines are high specification laser cutters at very competitive prices. Whilst a laser is not the only CAM outcome you should consider, it is the ideal complement to a suite of CNC sysetms - e.g. Roland STIKA, CAMM 1, RotoCAMM and/or MODELA."

A new dimension in Rapid Prototyping

"The Dimension 3D printer was a popular attraction at the recent show with people being particularly impressed by the quality of finish and material strength of the models.

"For those who have not heard of the Dimension, it is a 3D printer which builds real plastic parts from ABS.

Although the Dimension is unlikely to be within the budget of many schools, you are likely to see a Dimension in your area in the not too distant future. Several larger schools and a City Learning Centre already have a Dimension and several other LEAs are interested in purchasing the machine for remote manufacture."
